CHORNOBYL UNIVERSITY

CHORNOBYL UNIVERSITY

A new type of educational project, which unites leading researchers of Chornobyl and the educational process in institutions of various levels.

Chornobyl University is a modern multidisciplinary platform for dissemination of the latest knowledge, which uses the obvious advantages of learning directly at the scene of events. Chornobyl University unites universities, research institutes, leading researchers, experts, artists, and participants of an outstanding historical event. The aim of the project is to preserve and multiply the experience and knowledge about Chornobyl, which are becoming more and more valuable for overcoming modern threats and challenges. Chornobyl University takes its origins from the program of scientific and educational excursions and courses by CHORNOBYL TOUR, among whose clients are leading universities in Europe and America. This project was initiated by Sergii Mirnyi, a professional ecologist, the author of a number of multidisciplinary studies of Chornobyl, a writer, and liquidator officer of Chornobyl radiation intelligence.

STATE TRAINING COURSE FOR GUIDES OF THE CHORNOBYL ZONE

This year, the first educational course of Chornobyl University is dedicated to the training of Chornobyl guides. Currently, it is the most widespread profession for the dissemination of knowledge about Chornobyl. Students that successfully complete the course will receive a state certificate and will be able to apply for a job with the highest salary for guides in Ukraine.
The course of Chornobyl guides was developed by Chornobyl University in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, the Institute of Postgraduate Education, the Ukrainian Research Institute of Agricultural Radiology of The National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Radiation Safety, and leading experts and specialists.

On March 10, the presentation of Chornobyl University will take place. This educational program aims to change the existing view of the Chornobyl Zone, the events of 1986, and their consequences. The presentation will include: Kateryna Pavlova, acting head of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management; Serhiy Kvasha, vice-rector for educational and educational work of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, doctor of economic sciences, professor; Yaroslav Yemelianenko, CEO of CHORNOBYL TOUR; Sergii Mirnyi, founder of Chornobyl University.

Leading experts conducting research on various aspects of Chornobyl, doctors, and candidates of sciences, academicians, engineers, and researchers are involved in reading the course and conducting practical classes and excursions. It is especially significant that many of them were direct participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident from its first months. The most experienced Chornobyl guides will teach how to conduct Chornobyl tours. Classes will be held in the evening.

The conceptual basis of the course is a view of the Chornobyl disaster (the history of the explosion and its multifaceted consequences) as a phenomenon, for the understanding and adequate narration of which radiation and biological, as well as social, cultural, and psychological factors are equally important. The course is based on the most up-to-date, well-verified knowledge, which dispels many harmful ingrained scary myths about Chornobyl and radiation. Attention is drawn not only to the negative, but also to the positive consequences of Chornobyl (especially in the political and cultural spheres), to the achievements of the world community, the Ukrainian state, and the Ukrainian people in minimizing the damage from the explosion.
